sympathy for scar

Hear me out…we need to have some sympathy for Scar from “The Lion King”.

I got to go to the premiere of “Mufasa: The Lion King”, saw the movie in 3D (which is the only way you should see it BTW) and left there with a new perspective. And also left fangirling over Beyoncé.

Directed by Barry Jenkins (“Moonlight”), the prequel tells the story of how Mufasa becomes King but more importantly, how Scar became Scar. “Are people born wicked or do they have wickedness thrust upon them?” Through stunning visuals, a top-tier soundtrack and an a-list cast, we learn the answer to that very Wicked question. *no spoilers*

The cubs struggle with very human problems like complicated family dynamics, trauma and finding their life’s purpose. Basically, they’re also in need of some therapy just like us!

All in all, this movie is a must-see this holiday season if you grew up loving the original 1994 movie and enjoyed the humor of the 2019 version as well! Seth Rogen and Billy Eichner are back as Pumbaa and Timon so you know you’ll be LOLing everytime they appear on screen (I was). Plus, baby Kiara (voiced by Blue Ivy Carter) is the cutest, sweetest, most adorable little cub!

If you’re thinking of taking the kids to see it this holiday season, I would be prepared to explain some of the complicated themes and hold their hands during the intense action scenes. I would also stash some kleenex in your pocket if you’re as emotional as I am.

And if you want to join Disney in their lion conservation efforts to #ProtectThePride, go to Disney.com/MufasaProtectThePride. “Mufasa: The Lion King” is out in theaters on Friday!
