new music: johnny manchild and the poor bastards

Music genres shouldn’t exist anymore. For Johnny Manchild and the Poor Bastards, they never have. The band have seamlessly blended emo, jazz idioms, alt-rock, world music, and funk into their songs since 2016.

Voluntary Animals is their latest single which founder/writer/producer/vocalist/keyboardist Johnny Manchild says is about the acceptance of how little control we really have to change things in the grand scheme of things.

We seem to think as a species that we’re above everything, when we’re really just another animal running around and trying to comprehend the world. It feels better to accept that we’re just another small piece of everything, and we really aren’t superior in nature at all.
— Johnny Manchild
